J.C.L. Simonde de Sismondi biography

Born on May 9, 1773, in Geneva, Switzerland, J.C.L. Simonde de Sismondi worked as a bank clerk in Lyon before the French Revolution forced him to leave. Settling in Tuscany for a time as a farmer, he wrote books on Italian and French history as well as the Principles of Political Economy, in which he called upon fair, more humane standards to be held for the working class. He died on June 25, 1842.
