Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was born September 27, 1849, in Ryazan, Russia. In 1895 he founded the Institute of Experimental Medicine, his research lab for the next four decades. In the 1890s he studied the digestive system, winning a Nobel Prize for his work in 1904. Later, he pioneered the study of "conditioned reflex" through an experiment with dogs. He died February 27, 1936, in Leningrad, Russia.
