Isadora Duncan was a trailblazing dancer and instructor whose emphasis on free forms of movement was a precursor to modern dance techniques.
Born in May of either 1877 or 1878, in Oakland, California, Isadora Duncan developed an approach to dance that defied the rigid conventions of ballet and emphasized naturalistic movement. Clad in flowing sheaths, she became a hit in Europe as a performer to classical music and opened several schools that integrated dance with various types of learning. She died on September 14, 1927.
