Inigo Jones was a British architect born on July 19, 1573, in London, England. Often referred to as the “first English architect,” he traveled to Italy several times from 1598-1614, where he learned advanced architectural skills. In 1614, he was bestowed as Surveyor to the Kings’ Works where he serviced both James I and Charles I. Jones was best known for his work on the Queens House in Greenwich (1616) and the Banqueting House in Whitehall (1619). Jones died on June 12, 1652 in London.
