Ingrid Betancourt biography

Ingrid Betancourt was born on December 25, 1961, in Bogotá, Colombia. In 1994, she served in Columbia’s Congress. From 1998 to 2000, she was a senator. In 2002, she was kidnapped by Marxist guerillas of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) while campaigning for the presidency. FARC released her in 2008, after which she strove to free other hostages and wrote a memoir about her experience.
