Ida McKinley was the wife of 25th U.S. President William McKinley. She served as first lady from 1897 until McKinley's assassination in 1901.
Ida McKinley was born on June 8, 1847, in Canton, Ohio. After receiving an education at a finishing school, she married William McKinley in 1871. When McKinley was elected the 25th president of the United States (1897-1901), Ida became first lady. The death of her mother and both of her infant daughters took a severe toll on Ida's health, and she became heavily dependent on her husband. She died in 1907, six years after President McKinley's assassination.
