Howard Nemerov biography

Howard Nemerov was born on February 29, 1920, in New York City. Twice appointed the United States' poet laureate, Nemerov was a writer with wit and illuminating irony. His work often focused on nature and was almost exclusively written in fix meters—a technique that gave him a reputation for being meticulous and formalistic. Readers can find Nemerov's poetry in several collections, most notably The Image of the Law (1947) and The Collected Poems (1977). He died in University City, Missouri, on July 5, 1991.
