Horatio Alger biography
Horatio Alger, Jr. was born on January 13, 1832, in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He was a Harvard graduate who worked as a minister, leaving the pulpit due to misconduct with boys. Alger moved to New York and published scores of popular books that, via formula, chronicled impoverished young male protagonists finding a better life. He was also a tutor, magazine writer and biographer. Alger died on July 18, 1899.
