Hoagy Carmichael was born on November 22, 1899, in Bloomington, Indiana. A songwriter, he wrote "Rockin' Chair," "Lazy River," and "Stardust"—one of the most recorded songs of all time. He also gave us "Georgia on my Mind," and "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening," which won the Academy Award for best original song in 1951. Carmichael appeared in several films and wrote two memoirs. He died in 1981.
