Hiawatha biography

Profile

Hiawatha is a legendary chief of the Onondaga tribe of North America and the founder of the Iroquois confederacy. Hiawatha followed a vision given to him by the Great Peacemaker to band together five nations - the Senecas, Cayugas, Onodagas, Oneidas, and Mohawks - to form Five Nations. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote Song of Hiawatha in 1855 about him.
