Henry J. Kaiser was born on May 9, 1882, in Sprout Brook, New York. In 1914, he started a road-paving business. In 1927, he landed a $20 million contract, before joining forces with other major contractors in 1931. When WWII started, he refocused on ship-building. In 1945, he opened the Western U.S. integrated steel plant. After WWII, his companies built houses and cars. He died on August 24, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
