Henry IV was born on November 11, 1050, in Goslar, Saxony. He became Holy Roman Emperor and king of Germany in 1056. In 1073, when he tried to reassume his father’s former imperial rights and construct a powerful new domain in Saxony, revolts ensued. In 1076, he deposed Pope Gregory VII over a disagreement about imperial rule. In 1105, Henry IV was abdicated. He died August 7, 1106 in Liege, Lorraine.
