Heike Kamerlingh-Onnes (b. 1853) was a Dutch scientist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his development of liquid helium. He also discovered superconductivity - the almost complete lack of electrical resistance in certain materials when cooled to near absolute zero. Due to his work, he pioneered refrigeration techniques. He taught experimental physics at several Dutch universities.
