A vital figure in the Harlem Renaissance, Gwendolyn Bennett is known for the visual imagery in her writing, which included short stories and poems. She wrote a popular news column for 'The Crisis and Opportunity' magazines and was close friends with many other Harlem Renaissance writers. Most of her famous work--including her most famous poem, 'To a Dark Girl,' dates to the 1920s.
