Born in England in 1570, British conspirator Guy Fawkes was executed in 1605 for attempting to blow up the British Parliament building in what came to be known as the Gunpowder Plot. Fawkes and a group of other Catholic zealots had planted at least 20 barrels of gunpowder under the building prior to the attempted attack.
