George E. Palade biography

George Emil Palade was born on November 19, 1912, in Jassy, Romania. After World War II, he immigrated to the United States. Palade worked at the Rockefeller Institute in New York, where he studied cell structures and discovered ribosomes. In 1974, he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his research. He taught at Yale and the University of California before retiring in 2001. He died on October 7, 2008, in Del Mar, California.
