George Balanchine biography

Born on Jan. 22, 1904, in St. Petersburg, Russia, George Balanchine studied at the Imperial School of Ballet during World War I. He left the Soviet Union and made his way to the U.S. He founded the New York City Ballet in 1948 and acted as the artistic director and chief choreographer. He was an international choreographer and almost every ballet company in the world has performed his work.
