Franco Modigliani was born on June 18, 1918, in Rome. He fled fascist Italy for the U.S. in 1939 and graduated from the New School for Social Research with his doctorate in economics in 1944. He received the Nobel Prize in 1985 for his study of household savings and its impact on financial markets. He published an autobiography, Adventures of an Economist, two years before his death in 2003.
