Francisco de Paula Santander biography

Francisco de Paula Santander was born on April 2, 1792, in what is now Colombia. In 1819, he served as a brigadier general in Simón Bolívar’s army. He served as vice president of New Granada, or Gran Colombia, but clashed with some of Bolívar’s decisions. In 1828, he was banished. In 1932, he returned and served as president of New Granada from 1833 to 1837. He died in 1840.
