Erik Satie biography

Profile

Erik Satie became associated with the Rosicrucian movement in about 1890 and wrote several works under its influence. He began to gain prominence in 1911, when he was lauded as a forerunner of modern music; his admirers included Claude Debussy, Jean Cocteau, and the group of composers known as Les Six. Satie's music represents the first definite break with 19th-century French Romanticism.
