Emil Jannings gave acclaimed performances in The Last Laugh (1924), Faust (1925), and The Blue Angel (1930). He worked with directors like F.W. Murnau, Ernst Lubitch, and Victor Fleming. In 1929, Jannings won the first Best Actor Oscar. However, the advent of sound movies, along with Jannings' thick German accent, and his support of the Nazi regime ended his career in the U.S.
