Elizabeth of Russia biography
Empress of Russia was born to Peter the Great and Catherine I, rulers of Russia from 1682 to 1727. She staged a coup d'état in 1741, and reigned until her death in 1762. Uninterested in government, Elizabeth founded Russia's first university and built the extravagant Winter Palace. At her death, the country's financial situation had deteriorated, but it's European ties were strong.
