Elbridge Gerry biography

Elbridge Gerry was a delegate to the Continental Congress who signed the Declaration of Independence, but was initially opposed to the Constitution. In 1810, he was elected Governor of Massachusetts, where he became known for dividing electoral districts for political gain (now known as "gerrymandering"). As Vice President under James Madison, Gerry supported the War of 1812 and died in office.
