Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts on April 11, 1794, Edward Everett had a formidable reputation as an orator when he gave his speech at the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery in 1863. His was the speech that came right before Abraham Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address. Everett also served in Congress, as governor of Massachusetts and president of Harvard University.
