Doris Lessing works have focused on people involved in social and political upheaval. Her first book was The Grass Is Singing, in 1950. Her other works include Children of Violence and The Golden Notebook, and her collection of essays, Time Bites, displays her wide-ranging interests, from women's issues and politics to Sufism. She was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2007.
