Cormac McCarthy was born on July 20, 1933 in Providence, RI. He attended the University of Tennessee and served in the Air Force. McCarthy achieved popular fame with All the Pretty Horses, winner of the National Book Award and the first volume in his Border Trilogy. He won a Pulitzer Prize for his postapocalyptic novel, The Road. McCarthy's works have been adapted into critically acclaimed films.
