Born on August 22, 1936, Chuck Brown, known as the "Godfather of Go-Go," was a singer and guitarist, focusing on Go-Go, a sub-genre of funk music. Brown began playing guitar with Jerry Butler and The Earls of Rhythm in the early 1960s, and a few years later, he joined Latin-American band Los Latinos. His hit songs include "I Need Some Money" and "Bustin' Loose."

Brown died on May 16, 2012 of multiple organ failure, after being hospitalized in Brandywine, Maryland. At the time of his death, he was still performing funk music.

Brown is survived by two sons, Wiley and Nekos Brown. Wiley currently attends and plays on Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University's (Virginia Tech) football team, as an outside linebacker. Nekos also played on Virginia Tech's football team, as a defensive end.
