Charles XI was the King of Sweden from the time he was five-years-old in 1660 until his death in 1697. During his reign, Sweden defeated the Danes, capturing the region of Skåne for its own. In 1680, Charles XI married the sister of the King of Denmark, thus aligning the two nations. He later worked to correct various domestic affairs. He was succeed by his son, Charles XII.
