Born in Danbury, Connecticut, on October 20, 1874, Charles Ives was a significant American composer known for a number of innovations that anticipated most of the later musical developments of the 20th century. His father was a bandleader and was his early teacher. Before attending Yale University, Ives composed "Song for the Harvest Season." He composed almost all of his music before he founded his New York City insurance firm, Ives & Myrick, in 1916. He died on May 19, 1954, in New York City.
