Charles III biography

Profile

Charles III, known as Charles the Simple, was king of France from 893 to 922. His crowning and rule was mightily disputed for many years and did not take complete effect until the death of Odo in 898. As a member of the Carolingian dynasty, Charles defeated the Viking leader Rollo in 911, and forced him to sign the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte that made Rollo his vassal. Rudolph succeeded him.
