Charles biography
Profile
Charles of Blois, also known simply as Charles, was born circa 1319 in central France, and was rival duke of Brittany from 1341 until his death. In June 1337, Charles married Joanna the Lame and, together, the couple opposed the House of Montfort in the Breton War of the Succession. Though highly pious Charles was a ruthless military leader and ordered the massacre of 2,000 civilians after the siege of Quimper. Charles died Auray, France, in 1364, during the Battle of Auray, giving victory to the Montforts.
