Busby Berkeley was born on November 29, 1895, in Los Angeles, California. His parents were actors so he learned to dance and act at the age of 5. He choreographed more than 20 Broadway musicals before going to Hollywood in 1930 where worked as a film director and choreographer. He was known for his elaborate set design and choreography. His work includes the films 42nd Street and Gold Diggers of 1933.
