Braxton Bragg biography

Profile

Born in 1817, Braxton Bragg was a Confederate officer in the U.S. Civil War (1861–1865) whose successes in the West were lost when he failed to follow up on them. After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Bragg served in the Seminole Wars and the Mexican War (1846–1848). He became a major general but was relieved of duty after defeats culminating in the Battle of Chattanooga.
