Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness, born on November 1, 1798, was the grandson of Arthur Guinness, who founded the Guinness Brewery in 1759. Benjamin Guiness joined the firm at an early age and became sole owner when his father died in 1855. Under Benjamin Guiness, the stout brand became famous, and the business grew into the largest of its kind in the world. Benjamin Guiness was the first Lord Mayor of Dublin, served as a Member of Parliament from 1865 to 1868, and was granted the honorary title of baronet in 1867. He died in London on May 19, 1868.
