Barney Ewell was one of the leading sprinters of the 1940s, and won three medals at the 1948 Olympics.
Born Norwood H. Ewell on February 25, 1918, Barney Ewell first gained notice at Pennsylvania State University, where he won collegiate championships in the 100- and 200- meter sprints. After serving in the army in World War II, Ewell won three medals at the 1948 Olympics.
