Journalist Arthur Griffith was a founder of the Irish nationalist movement (Sinn Féin) and briefly served as President of the Irish Republic in 1922.
Irish nationalist Arthur Griffith worked as a typesetter and miner before turning to political journalism. Frustrated by the failure to win Irish independence through legislation, Griffith helped found the Sinn Féin movement. In 1921, he was selected as leader of the treaty negotiations which eventually split Ireland in two. Griffith was elected president of the Irish Republic in 1922.
