Artemisia Gentileschi was a Tuscan, Baroque-period painter. She studied under her father, artist Orazio Gentileschi, and was also influenced by Caravaggio.
Artemisia Gentileschi was born on July 8, 1593, in Rome, Italy. In 1609, she painted her oldest surviving work, Madonna and Child. She married in 1612 but soon separated. She lived in Florence for the next eight years then painted in Genoa until 1930, when she moved to Naples. From 1638–'40, she and her father worked together on a series for the Queens House, Greenwich. She died circa 1652, in Naples, Italy.
