Art Rubinstein biography
Profile
Born in Poland in 1887, Arthur Rubinstein was a famous pianist who made his debut in Berlin in 1900. He reaped only moderate success during the next few years, accompanying the violinist Eugène Ysaye, among others. Rubinstein stopped performing for five years (1932-37) to improve his technique, reemerging as who many regard as the greatest Chopin interpreter of the 20th century. Active through his 80s, he died in Switzerland in 1982.
