Aldo Moro was born Sept. 23, 1916, in Maglie, Italy. After World War II he was elected a deputy to the Constituent Assembly, and to the legislature. He took office as secretary of the Christian Democrats during a crisis that threatened to split the party in 1959. He was invited to form his own government in 1963. In 1978 he was kidnapped and murdered by members of the Red Brigades.
