While his father was prime minister (1976–78), Yasuo Fukuda was his chief secretary. He was elected to the Diet in 1990, taking over his father's seat in the lower house. He later served as chief cabinet secretary under both Prime Ministers Mori and Koizumi, and from 2005 until his elevation to prime minister, he served on a number of committees within the Liberal Democratic Party.© 2013 A+E Networks.
