William Howard Taft was born September 15, 1857 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Taft was elected as a judge in Ohio before being appointed to run the Second Philippine Commission by President McKinley. When Theodore Roosevelt declined to run for reelection, he supported Taft, who won the presidency easily in 1908.
