Walter Huston's first noted Broadway appearance was in Mr. Pitt (1924). With the introduction of sound to motion pictures, Huston became chiefly a film actor, though he never gave up stage work completely. For his performance in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), directed by his son, John Huston, he received an Academy Award for best supporting actor.
