Profile
Actor. Born on July 29, 1942, in New York, New York. Sirico is perhaps best known for his portrayal of mob captain Paulie "Walnuts" Gualtieri on the hit television series The Sopranos. He brings to the role some of his own experiences being on the wrong side of the law to his superb performance. In the 1970s, Sirico served time in prison on a weapons-related charge.
Sirico later developed quite a career as a character actor. He has worked with director Woody Allen on numerous films, including Bullets Over Broadway (1994), Mighty Aphrodite (1995), and Celebrity (1998). Sirico has also appeared in several other critically and commercially successful films, such as Dead Presidents (1987) and Goodfellas (1990).
The Sopranos first aired in January 1999, making Sirico and the rest of the cast practically household names. His nuanced portrayal of tough guy Paulie Walnuts earned him strong reviews. Sirico, along with the rest of the cast, won a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2000 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
With all of his success and fame, Sirico has taken time out of his busy work schedule to help others. He has helped to raise funds for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and HeartShare, which provides services and special programs to individuals and families in need in the New York area. In 2004, Sirico and James Gandolfini??who plays Tony Soprano??visited the Persian Gulf region as part of a USO-Armed Forces Entertainment tour. The co-stars signed autographs, posed for photographs, and spent time with the servicemen and women to show their support.
Sirico lives in New York and has two children.
