Screenwriter, director. Born in New York City. The son of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and filmmaker Frank D. Gilroy, Tony Gilroy worked as a musician before turning to film. His brothers, John and Dan, are also screenwriters. Working primarily in the thriller genre, Tony Gilroy's screenplays are known for their intense suspense and highly polished dialog, including 1995's Dolores Claiborne and 1997's The Devil's Advocate. Gilroy is perhaps best known as the writer that adapted Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne series to three films starring Matt Damon.
In 2007, Gilroy made his directorial debut with Michael Clayton, a high-powered legal thriller penned by Gilroy himself. Starring George Clooney, Michael Clayton was nominated for numerous awards, including the Oscar for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
