Profile

Thomas Gainsborough was an English painter. At the early age of 13, he left home for London, emerging ten years later as a respectable portraiture and landscape painter. In 1768, he co-founded the Royal Academy of Art. He was quite preferred above the official court painter for works commissioned the royal family. Anthony Van Dyck's influence on him can be seen in his 1770 portrait Blue Boy.
