Sydney Brenner was born on January 13, 1927 in Germiston, South Africa. After receiving his Doctorate of Philosophy from Exeter College, he worked for twenty-five years at the Medical Research Council Unit in Cambridge. Brenner's many contributions to molecular biology led to his being co-awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2002.
