Profile

St Jerome was a Catholic priest born in Stridon circa 347. As a man, he traveled to Rome to study philosophy and Latin. Seeking an ascetic life, he became ordained and in 382, began his duties, and what was to become his most important life work, producing a translation of the Bible from Hebrew into Latin (the Vulgate). For some 15 years, he wrote commentaries explaining his translation choices.
