Born circa 640 A.D., Solon was an Athenian statesman who is regarded as one of the Seven Wise Men of Greece. Records of his life were not written down until some 100 years after his death. It is noted that he made great efforts to end exclusive aristocratic control of the government (i.e. Draco, hence the term draconian), making way for a new and more humane law code. He was also a noted poet.
