Early Life

Siobhan Evelyn Magnus was born to an Irish-American working-class family on March 15, 1990, in Barnstable, Massachusetts. Her father, Alan, was forced to retire from his job as a truck driver due to a disability, and her mother, Colleen, worked in a bookstore for several years before being laid off.

Magnus began performing on stage with the Barnstable High School Drama Club while in elementary school, first appearing as a munchkin in a 1999 production of The Wizard of Oz. Years later, she played the role of Dorothy in another production of Oz, the performance taped for a WB reality show called High Drama. By the time Magnus graduated from Barnstable High in 2008, she had performed in 36 of the school's productions.

Magnus then unsuccessfully auditioned for the Berklee College of Music. After attending Salem State College for just one semester, she became a glassblower's apprentice and sang for a band called Lunar Valve.

‘American Idol’ Contestant

In 2009, Colleen convinced Magnus to try out for American Idol. The 19-year-old was accepted for the show's ninth season, which premiered on January 12, 2010. Pitted against a group of competitors that included Crystal Bowersox, Casey James, Lee DeWyze and Michael Lynche, she became one of the final six Idol contestants. Magnus's musical performances included covers of the Animals’ “House of the Rising Sun” and Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." For her final performance, she sang Aretha Franklin's "Think."

Much to her disappointment, Magnus was voted off the show during the episode that aired on April 28, 2010, with DeWyze going on to win the competition.

Post-‘Idol’ Career

Magnus performed in concerts throughout the Massachusetts area in 2011, including the Cape Cod Music Festival. She co-wrote all of the original tracks for her debut album, Moonbaby, which was released in January 2012.

On August 11, 2013, Magnus performed with the Boston Pops at the 28th annual Citizen Bank Pops by the Sea concert in Cape Cod. Her act was dedicated to the memory of singer Patti Page.
