Sid Caesar was an American comedian who pioneered the television variety show format with the programs Your Show of Shows and Caesar's Hour.


Profile

The son of immigrants, Sid Caesar played in bands during the Great Depression to make a few bucks. While stationed in Brooklyn during World War II, he met Vernon Duke. In the late '40s, he developed a nightclub act on Broadway, which lead to his pioneer TV variety show format, exhibited in his wildly popular programs Your Show of Shows and Caesar's Hour. He also starred in films and plays.
