The son of immigrants, Sid Caesar played in bands during the Great Depression to make a few bucks. While stationed in Brooklyn during World War II, he met Vernon Duke. In the late '40s, he developed a nightclub act on Broadway, which lead to his pioneer TV variety show format, exhibited in his wildly popular programs Your Show of Shows and Caesar's Hour.
